Vision Screenings

We help students set clear sights on a bright future.

Vision issues can seriously threaten a child's early learning. Roughly 85% of early learning happens visually, but nearly one out of every four children has a learning-related vision problem. If unaddressed, these problems can lead to learning disabilities or even permanent vision loss.

Our Vision Screening teams help detect vision programs early and combat the learning disabilities they cause. Teams are made up of volunteers, trained and organized by United Way.  Volunteers screen local pre-k students for vision issues at their school or early childhood education center. If our results indicate a possible issue, we refer parents to their healthcare professional.

By working together, we help prevent vision related learning disabilities and ensure every child has a strong start in school.

KEY IMPACT

Every year, our volunteers screen nearly 3,000 local pre-k students for vision issues.
