Connecting people at times of crisis with immediate, essential human needs such as shelter, safety and food.
Helping working families and individuals overcome short-term instability and create a path to a more financially secure future.
Addressing disparities in educational opportunities from early childhood through school years and helping young people become successful adults.
April 15 is just around the corner. Households with income below $65,000 can get their tax returns prepared for free, no matter the size of the refund, through United Way’s Free Tax Prep program. IRS-certified volunteers complete returns now through April 15 at locations across the region. In the 2022 tax year, 280 volunteers prepared nearly 8,000 returns, saving working families more than $2 million in tax prep fees and generating $10.6 million in refunds. Free Tax Prep locations are organized by Just Harvest, a United Way partner agency. To schedule Free Tax Prep, dial 211 or text your zip code to 898-211. Free, do-it-yourself online tax assistance is available through ‘MyFreeTaxes.com’ for everyone, regardless of income.
Elisha Serotta is a volunteer extraordinaire. Not only is she United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania’s Volunteer Coordinator, but she has dedicated her life to volunteer services. Elisha has served a multitude of nonprofits, including United Way partners Just Harvest and Assemble. Her passion for volunteering is what led her to United Way and being able to see the impact that volunteers can make has made her stay. She continues to fuel her passion by engaging donors and loves that her job has helped her get to know the ins and outs of Pittsburgh. In her free time, she’s an artist at heart and is always looking for art fairs and comedy shows to enjoy.
