Helping older adults maintain their health, happiness and independence
Southwestern Pennsylvania has one of the largest populations of older adults in the country. Many live on their own at home - and want to stay that way - but just need a little bit of help.
Open Your Heart to a Senior (formally Faith in Action) makes this wish come true for thousands of local seniors every year. Open Your Heart to a Senior matches older adult participants with trained and compassionate volunteers. Volunteers provide free, non-medical services that help seniors maintain their quality of life and independence in their own home. Volunteers provide home safety checks, appointment escorts, rides for errands and shopping, home visits, caregiver relief, telephone reassurance and more.
Since the program began, Open Your Heart to a Senior has provided over 100,000 hours of volunteer service for almost 2,500 older adults through 1,000 volunteers. The program has saved our community millions in long-term care costs.
